This
is carved out of Verdite from South Africa. I originally intended
to carve a reclining woman but as I took the first blow with my
chisel, a large piece fell off! I looked at the stone again and
there was the thumb! I left the thumb natural, as you can see.

few days beforehand, I had visited a 100-year-old lady in London and
had taken some photos of her. I asked myself why I was taking photos
of her, and also one of her hand! Now I know! |
