Sue Pearl – Cambridge Stone Carver

Shin

Peace depicts the Hebrew letter ‘Shin’ on one side and the Arabic letter ‘Siin’ on the other. It is carved in verdite and is 4″ high; 2″ wide and 1″ deep. Its base is slate.

When I was searchng for the right stone, the idea came to me to carve ‘Peace’ using the beauty of ancient verdite. The sculpture expresses my yearning for peace in my lifetime between Muslims and Jews. After all, we are all from the same family, are we not? The Shin stands for Shalom and the Siin for Salaam. Both word mean ‘peace’.
